Sustainability

The Princeton Public School District is actively working to become a more sustainable and environmentally friendly district. Our district Green Team leads the way in finding innovative, creative, and practical ways to implement sustainable practices throughout our school system. Our school-based Green Teams analyze avenues for increasing sustainability practices at a school level, from implementing recycling and composting programs to encouraging students to bring reusable water bottles to school.  All initiatives and actions performed by the Green Team are funded by the Gardenier Environmental Fund and the Sustainable Jersey For School Grant funded by PSEG.

A wide variety of sustainability-related learning experiences are woven into the everyday culture and the curriculum throughout the district. Our science curriculum from grades K through 12 addresses sustainability topics, including local food and farming, conservation, and energy. Students participate in assemblies and field trips to go deeper into these topics, and the gardens at each of our schools are hubs of learning and activity. We encourage you to learn more about our sustainability efforts by reading about some of our initiatives that are listed below.

Sustainability Initiatives

  • All Board documents are now listed in BoardDocs, which has helped us lower printing costs and save on paper.
  • Our district uses PowerSchool to keep virtual student records as well as track attendance and manage scheduling.
  • Paper Cut is a program that reduces our paper usage and carbon footprint. For any scheduled printing, the software will assign the most efficient printer for the project in order to reduce paper, energy, and ink usage.

Sustainable Jersey Certification
